An English love of Munich tradition

Some traditions start small and grow over the years to become an integral part of life – as is the case with Foxi. He has been drawn to the Oktoberfest in Munich every year since his youth. For him, the Oktoberfest is much more than just a folk festival: it is an affair of the heart, a tradition that he has lived with enthusiasm since his teenage years. He travels from England every year for it.

“For me, Oktoberfest is much more than just a festival,” says Foxi. Visiting the Oktoberfest has been an annual tradition for him since his youth. Together with his wife, he enjoys the Bavarian beer, the hearty food and the unique atmosphere that you won’t find anywhere else. Since day one, his favorite tent has been the Schottenhamel.

What fascinates him so much about the Wiesn is the special blend of Bavarian hospitality and the sense of community. “There’s nothing like it in my village in England. The Wiesn is something very special – it brings people together.” For Foxi, it’s a time to catch up with old friends, make new acquaintances and simply celebrate life.

Another Wiesn highlight for Foxi is the sweet finale: a visit to Schiebel’s Kaffekaferl. “They have the best apple strudel in the world!” he enthuses. “No visit to the Wiesn is complete without enjoying at least one slice.” For Foxi, the warm apple strudel with vanilla sauce is simply a must – a sweet finale that crowns the Wiesn experience every year.

Over the years, he has developed a strong emotional bond with Munich and the Oktoberfest. For him, it is a place where tradition, joy and friendship come together. “It’s hard to describe, but once you’ve been here, you understand why you keep coming back.”
